A Banking Application Extended, Not Redeveloped

HSH Nordbank selected Jubilant's terminal emulator to extend the life of its screen-based banking application, Skyline — removing the need for client desktop software.

HSH Nordbank (formerly Hamburgische Landesbank) runs a successful screen-based electronic banking application on an IBM AS/400. Customers connect over a secure private network using a traditional terminal emulator to access the application, Skyline. The application had always been well suited to its job — but customers saw its green screens as cumbersome, and every remote user station needed desktop emulation and communication software installed.

Days to implement, not years

Jubilant proposed bringing the Skyline screens directly to a secure web server — removing remote software maintenance and giving the screens a contemporary feel. The architected solution took just days to implement. Authorized users now connect over SSL with 128-bit encryption and use Skyline as normal web pages in the browser, including report printing. Most host screens transformed into web pages automatically; the main menus were converted into easy push-button options for a modern lift.

Banking-grade security preserved

A double firewall with the Jubilant solution sandwiched in a demilitarized zone ensures only authorized users connect, using the latest version of SSL over the internet. Browsers must authenticate before any page can be viewed.
